It was great to meet all of you at Open House.  I'm very excited to start school next week.  You will have fun reading the poem that goes with your ready confetti Monday night.  Until then, enjoy the rest of your summer vacation!  See you soon!

Last week we planted grass seeds and made "Grassbert."  We were excited to come to school this morning and see he had hair!
Today it was time to give him a haircut.
I wonder how long it will take before he needs another trim?!?!

Apple Pie

We learned all about Johnny Appleseed this week.  On Friday, we made a caramel apple pie.
First, we read all of the directions.
Then, we worked with a partner and followed the recipe as we made our caramel apple pie.
Off to the kitchen they go!
Yum, yum!  They look delicious!
Finally, we did an informative writing about making our caramel apple pies.

If You Give a Moose a Muffin

This week we read a lot of stories by Laura Numeroff.  We worked on our comprehension skills by searching for realism and fantasy in her stories.  We also spent time working on cause and effect.  On Thursday we made muffins after we read her story If You Give a Moose a Muffin.
First, we read the directions and assigned each person two jobs.
Next, we mixed all of our ingredients.
Then, we poured the batter into the muffin tins and put them in the oven.
Finally!  It was time to eat our muffins!  We reviewed narrative writing by writing a story following the BME plan we learned earlier in the year.  Students worked hard to get their temporal words in their stories!

The class did such an awesome job this morning of following expectations!  To celebrate such a great morning, we had lunch in the classroom and they LOVED it!  Keep up the good work first graders!
